Tinubu in shock, as Fashola dumps Lagos State Politics

Former Governor of Lagos State and Minister of Works, Housing and Power, Babatunde Fashola, did not vote on Saturday during the Lagos’ Local Government elections.
Reporters and residents around Ward G3, Unit 002, State Senior Grammer School, Itolo, where he normally cast his vote, waited endlessly for the Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

Fashola did not show up till voting and counting ended. His spokesman, Hakeem Bello, did not take phone calls put through Saturday evening.

Fashola also was not visible ahead of the election to mobilise his constituents to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, as was the case when he served as Lagos Governor.
The Minister has stayed away from Lagos politics and official gatherings since his tenure ended in 2015.

However, former Lagos Governor and national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, voted at his Polling Unit 047, Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, Ikeja, while Governor Ambode voted at his polling unit in Epe.
Octogenarian and first Civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, also voted, defying the rain.

Fashola was conspicuously absent at the Lagos at 50 event organised by the Akinwunmi Ambode administration.
The celebration was attended by all former Lagos governors including Chief Bode George, a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Edo university is not for the poor, its for the rich - vice chancellor

In a country where discrimination is the order of the day

The Management of Edo University located at Iyamho has professed that the institution was meant to cater for the academically-endowed students and the wealthy in the society.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, made this known on Monday in an interview with Newsmen, in Iyamho-Uzairue, in the Estako-West local government area of Edo.

“The idea behind the establishment of Edo University by the founding fathers is neither to replace nor compete with the existing Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

“But rather, to complement it in terms of providing world-class education with the best of infrastructure to academically-gifted students and the rich, who can afford the fees.

“People have questioned why former Gov. Adams Oshiomhole did not upgrade AAU, than establishing a new university altogether.

“Apart from its being capital-intensive to either renovate or bring in the needed infrastructure, the idea was to provide a different brand of education to the people.
“We are offering world-class infrastructure and state-of-the art facilities at EUI; that is why our fees are high. According to him, the fees range from between N400, 000 and N450, 000 a session.

“And that depends from which perspective you are looking at it.
“If it is from the perspective of a private university, our fees are very low indeed, because there is no private university that charges anything lower than what we offer.
“And only one or two public universities charge the same fees as us and that also depends on the quality of infrastructure and programmes on offer.

“The idea of the founding fathers is for anyone to have an ambiance of everything he desires abroad in any university environment here,’’ Aluyor said.

Wow the first time in history... A phone with a curved screen

It’s official, Samsung have released the world’s first smartphone with a curved screen. Although, there is no mention of when we can expect to see the see the GALAXY Round available in the USA, sources say it will be hitting the shelves in October 10 in Korea.

We have known for a while now that Samsung was developing a smartphone that would have a curved screen. However, while rumours were rife, certainties about the smartphone were hard to find. Nevertheless, we can now give you a more comprehensive view of what the first curved smartphone is all about.

Obviously, the real highlight and USP of the Samsung GALAXY Round its innovative and unique design. The 5.7 inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution screen has a slight concave curve like the rest of the handset. Samsung explains that this provides a superior user experience as the curved design makes the phone easier to hold and the curved display makes it easier to use the large the screen with one hand.

The curved design also allows for a number of new features such as the Roll Effect. By rolling the phone to the side while it is on a flat surface, the user is able to check the time, battery and see if they have any new messages. Similarly, the Bounce UX feature allows you to change the music you’re listening to by rolling the uneven phone to the left or the right, depending whether you want to go back to the previous track or skip forward to the next one.

The phone has a faux-leather back panel, much like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and is currently available in ‘Luxury Brown’. However, it has been hinted that the device will be available in more colours soon.

The reasons you will want to buy the Samsung galaxy s8

Much like the vaunted iPhone 8, many of us are waiting to see what the new Samsung Galaxy S8 will offer once it is finally released.

Considering that this brand is seen as being the only currently viable rival to Apple, we should only expect that major improvements will be taking place. Let’s also not forget about the massive debacle involving S7 models which would explode on occasion. Samsung has much to prove, so their new variant has better live up to expectations. While we already know that it will debut on March 29 , what are some other reasonable predictions that we can make in advance of its release?

Enhanced AI Systems
Mobile phone artificial intelligence has been a game changer in recent years, so this first prediction was a long time coming. The Galaxy S8 will employ an AI system known as Bixby. This is much more than a voice assistant alone, for it is said that Bixby can perform other tasks such as identifying landmarks and even translate text through images alone. It will initially be available in English and Korean although it is certain that other languages will follow. Bixby will also be further integrated into other Samsung systems into the future.

Better Safe Than Sorry?
Samsung received a massive amount of bad press when the S7 ran into overheating problems. So, it appears as if the company executives will institute a three-month return policy in event that any issues plague the S8. When we consider that the industry average is approximately two weeks, this is indeed generous. Or, perhaps they have not yet found the root cause of the problem?

Better Camera
It is though that the S8 camera will be able to capture videos associated with up to 1000 fps. This will be excellent for slow motion shots and should such a rumor prove true, the camera will be light years ahead of its rivals (the 7S camera has speeds of 120 fps). It is also thought that there will be two front-facing camera apertures; one for selfies and another for iris scans. This is similar to both the iPhone 7 and the Huawei P9.

Outer Design
We should not expect a drastic departure in terms of ergonomics, as consumers were generally happy in regards to the overall feel of the phone. A slight increase in weight may be in the works; particularly if two cameras are incorporated. However, the major change-up may be in the choice of case colors. Recent reports hint that three of these tones are dubbed Arctic Silver, Orchid Grey and Black Sky. Gold and blue are likely to make a return as well.

Screen Size
Bigger may be better in terms of display sizes, for analysts believe that there will be two different choices. The standard S8 may offer a 5.8-inch scree and the S8 Edge could boost these dimensions up to 6.2 inches. However, we have to wonder how such increases will affect the physical footprint of the phones themselves. A reduced bezel to accommodate for larger sizes may cause the home button to be included as a virtual icon or potentially even moved to the rear of the device. It appears as if we will have to wait until March 29 to learn more.

Other metrics such as processing power and battery life are still in their speculative stages, so we have only mentioned variables here which seem to me more fact than fiction. As the release of the Galaxy S8 is just around the corner, the wait will soon be over. Can Samsung overcome the bad publicity from its previous model? The answer to this question is not far off.

Barcelona star Neymar agrees terms with Paris Saint-Germain - source

Barcelona forward Neymar has now told Paris Saint-Germain he wants to move to the Parc des Princes and agreed terms on a contract, a source close to the French club has told ESPN FC.

His decision means PSG can now push forward with their plans to trigger the Brazil international's €222 million buyout clause.

The source said Neymar and his father, who has been in discussions with PSG's ambitious Qatari owners and sporting director Antero Henrique for the past few days, have agreed to a massive contract at least four years in length.

If the 25-year-old ends up in Paris, he will be earning approximately €30m a year after taxes and will also be handed an astronomic signing on fee in excess of his net annual sum.

On top of those earnings and significant bonuses, the source indicated Neymar and his father will also profit from a number of club owners Oryx Qatar Sports Investments' other commercial ventures in Paris and away from the world of football.

According to French newspaper Le Parisien, Barca's No. 11 -- who is currently in the United States with Ernesto Valverde's men for preseason -- has already told some of his current teammates that he is leaving for PSG.

The ESPN FC source indicated that the biggest remaining question is no longer whether or not Neymar is willing to swap Camp Nou for Parc des Princes but how the capital outfit finance what would be a world-record fee.

PSG's transfer budget at the start of the summer was €220m, all within the framework of UEFA's financial fair play (FFP) rules.

However, after the signings of Dani Alves and Yuri Berchiche, the French club's ability to finance Neymar's proposed salary has been questioned.

Although the sale of Jean-Kevin Augustin effectively cancelled out the signatures of Alves and Berchiche in terms of transfer fees -- €13m spent and then recouped -- players including Serge Aurier, Hatem Ben Arfa, Grzegorz Krychowiak need to be moved on to create sufficient space on the wage bill.

According to the source, a number of methods to complete the Neymar deal are being considered, with almost all of them concerning third parties -- notably player and club sponsors Nike. The club know that when they make their move, they must meet the player's release clause.

If successful, though, PSG's summer business would not end there. Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez remains a target, while the defence could be boosted by Estudiantes' Juan Foyth, and Henrique is still very keen on luring Monaco's Fabinho to Paris to restructure the midfield.

Music World Mourns as Popular Lead Singer of Linkin Park, Commits Suicide by Hanging

Chester Bennington, the Linkin Park lead singer, whose screeching vocals helped the rock-rap band become one of the most commercially successful acts in the 2000s, was found dead in his home near Los Angeles on Thursday. He was 41.

Los Angeles Coroner spokesman, Brian Elias said authorities were investigating Bennington’s death, which was first broken by the website TMZ, as an apparent suicide at Palos Verdes Estates, but no additional details were available.

His death was reportedly caused by hanging, according to TMZ.

Band co-founder and producer, Mike Shinoda said on Twitter he was “shocked and saddened.”

Dave Farrell, the bassist, simply tweeted:“Heartbroken”.

“Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful family, his band-mates and his many friends,” Warner Bros. Records CEO and Chairman Cameron Stang said in a statement.

The Arizona-born singer was a close friend of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, who tragically died, also by suicide, earlier this year.

He performed Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” at Cornell’s funeral, and wrote a moving open letter to the music star after his death, describing how Cornell had “a pure and unrivalled talent” and “inspired me in many ways you could never have known”.

He was the godfather of Cornell’s 11-year-old son, Chris. Cornell’s 53rd birthday would have been Thursday.

“The Cornell family is overwhelmed by the heartbreaking news about Chester Bennington which tragically comes so soon after their family’s own loss,” said a Cornell family spokesperson.

“They open up their loving arms to Chester’s family and share in the sorrow with all those who loved him.”

“Just when I thought my heart couldn’t break any more,” Cornell’s wife Vicky tweeted on Thursday on hearing of Bennignton’s death.

Here are some of the photos he took before his death

Militants attack Lagos, kill Army Captain, policemen

Gun-wielding militants invaded Ishawo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, and killed an Army captain, who led the Joint Task Force on Anti-Militancy, and four policemen. The captain is identified as Muhammad. The incident occurred at Yewa-Olaloko area of Ishawo.

Doctors are battling to save the life of the survivor of the gory attack, a Divisional Police Officer (DPO). The commander of the militants and two of his members were also killed in the gun duel that ensued between security agents and the hoodlums.

In all, 12 people were said to have been killed in the attack. Members of the Joint Task Force on Anti-Militancy in Lagos and Ogun states, called Operation Awatse, were said to have been ambushed on their way to Olaloko area in the early hours of yesterday, while on a mission to rescue eight kidnapped victims.

The militants also set the security agents’ operational Hilux van on fire. A source said: “The soldiers, policemen and operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) went to the area in an attempt to rescue some abducted victims. The militants opened fire on them. The DPO was critically wounded. It’s doubtful if he will survive.”

A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as Gbemisola, said eight residents were abducted, after which the community alerted the police. Police were said to have moved immediately, with soldiers, but ran into an ambush.

The resident recounted: “The exchange of gun battle woke us up about midnight which lasted till 3a.m. Members of the Joint Task Force, deployed in the creeks of Lagos and Ogun states, were on their way to rescue the victims when they were ambushed by the kidnappers, who opened fire on them, killing four policemen and two soldiers instantly.

“In the exchange of gun battle which ensued, the commander of the militants was killed, while two of his men were also gunned down by the police. The death of their commander infuriated the militants, making them to kill three of their captives.

They fled with five other victims.” Our correspondent, who was at the community yesterday, was told that the militants cum kidnappers have invaded Ishawo on Friday and attempted to abduct three landlords, but one of the victims escaped. A witness gave the name of the landlord, who escaped as Osaze, a car dealer.

But, according to the witness, the kidnappers came for Osaze about midnight on Saturday. “After breaking into Osaze’s house, the gunmen ordered him into his vehicle. They poured petrol on the vehicle and set the man ablaze. It was the fire that attracted the task force. “The task force engaged the militants in a shootout. The task force called for reinforcement from Owutu Police Division,” the witness added. According to the source, when the policemen arrived, they chased the militants into the creeks. “Unknown to them, the militants did not flee.

They laid an ambush which the security agents ran into,” the witness added. Some of the residents said they could not come out of their houses because of the fear of the gunmen. “We locked ourselves up in our houses until the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, came to address us and gave us assurance that more policemen would be deployed in this community. He said we should not entertain fear. “But in the next few minutes everybody will go into his house because we don’t know what will happen next.

We cannot move freely until there is improved security,” a resident said. Another resident said that militants, who were dispersed after the bombardment of the creeks, were gradually regrouping and becoming formidable. “The militants have come back and are kidnapping every day.

Government should be more proactive on this development. We don’t wish for death of policemen and soldiers in this manner. What we are asking is that police should set up a command at that creek. They should treat it like what they have done in Sambisa forest in the North-East. A serious military intervention is needed here,” the resident added.

Reacting to the incident,Owoseni said that about 1a.m. yesterday, the police received a distress call that a group of militants/kidnappers entered Owutu- Isawo in Ikorodu through the thick swampy forest surrounding the area.

He said: “The militants/ kidnappers kidnapped some residents. In response, the police and the Army immediately mobilised personnel to the area, where the victims were rescued. Sadly, however, five out of the gallant, brave and patriotic officers lost their lives during the rescue operation. One of them is a Nigerian Army captain while the remaining four are policemen. One of the residents in the area also died. We pray that the God Almighty reward their loyalty to the nation with paradise and peaceful rest. We also pray that God gives their respective families the courage to bear the loss.”

The remains of the security agents and resident have been evacuated to the mortuary. The Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations (ADDAPR), Lt. Col. Olaolu Daodu, said that the combined team was able to foil the kidnap attempt and rescued all the abducted victims.

“Nine of the victims including an infant of about two-year-old were rescued from the criminals. However, on their way back, they were ambushed by a suspected criminal gang. During the clearance of the ambush, unfortunately four policemen lost their lives while the army officer who led the operation sustained gunshot wounds and die on the way to the hospital.

“Similarly, four of the rescued kidnapped victims including the infant sustained injuries during the encounter. They have all been evacuated to a hospital and are responding to treatment,” Daodu said. The army spokesman said a combined team of the Police and Military was in hot pursuit of the suspected kidnappers who fled the scene carrying the dead bodies of their colleagues and the wounded. Meanwhile, Lagos State government yesterday commiserated with families of the four policemen and Army captain.

In a statement, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, described the incident as unfortunate, but insisted that it would only strengthen government’s resolve to remove crime and criminalities from the state.

Ayorinde said Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was deeply touched by the incident and condoled with the families of the slain officers. He said: “The governor, however, assures the police and general public of his support and commitment to rid the state of every form of militancy, kidnapping, and illegal waterfront shanties that harbour criminals.”

The commissioner added that the unfortunate incident in Ishawo had further reinforced government’s resolve to go after criminal elements and their collaborators using coastal areas and illegal waterfront settlements as havens or escape routes to perpetrate evil and criminal activities.

Ayorinde added that every perpetrator directly or remotely linked to the Ishawo dastardly act would be brought to justice in the shortest possible time. He said: “We wish to solicit the understanding and support of the public on the need to rid our waterways of illegal shanties that are not only an eyesore to our collective decency, but have become a fertile ground for breeding illicit and illegal activities that constitute danger to the security and wellbeing of the larger public.”

Efe Ejeba wins 2017 big brother naija show

After 78 days of dramatic activities in the Big Brother Naija (BBN) house, the lifestyle reality show came to an end, Sunday night, with Delta State contestant,  Efe Ejeba winning the coveted prize of N25 million and a Kia Seranto SUV.
Efe, an upcoming rapper and last man standing on the show beat fellow finalists – Bisola, TBoss, Debie-Rise and Marvis – in a tension-filled finale that had fans of the show canvassing vigorously for their preferred housemates.
The 24-hour three-month long live show which commenced recording in Johannesburg, South Africa on January 22, 2017, with 12 housemates who were later joined by two others, and another two but fake housemates, climaxed in glamorous live performances that had DJ Neptune, music artistes Innocent Idibia, aka 2Baba, Tiwa savage and Emmy Gee, throwing up so much vibes amidst pomp.
While in the house, Efe, who is the youngest contestant – aged 24 – was unique for his frankness, multiple-term as Head of House, and his common use of pidgin diction with jokey phrases.
A graduate of Economics from the University of Jos, Plateau State, the self-acclaimed ‘street’ boy, who was one of the usually nominated housemates for possible eviction, had, each time, led the vote chart.
Female housemate and multi-talented entertainer, Bisola, was a high contender for the prize. She told Big Brother in a Diary Room session earlier that win or lose; “I feel like a winner already.” She noted that it took her eight years to be selected as a participant, and believes the show will impact her career greatly.
Big Brother who expressed optimism for her talents admonished her in a touching way, as she fought back tears. It was the most emotional last Diary Room session.
He said: “It’s been an amazing experience having you in the house – your versatility, your incredibility. Yes, there have been moments you have told big Brother that certain things you have done and may have said, that you wish to take them back; but who can judge you, except they have been through this experience themselves. It’s always good to find out why people do what they do. That curiosity leads to understanding, and understanding opens up the human souls to compassion, and compassion is the cornerstone of love. For there is no guilt in humans, all there is, is love. Bisola, as you leave tonight, may genuine love find you. May you prosper beyond your imagination. You are a gold fish… you are a gold fish; there will be no hiding place for you. All the good things will locate you. You can sing, you can act… the question is not what can Bisola do? It is what can’t Bisola do? Big Brother has truly enjoyed your stay in the house and wishes you all the very best in your future endeavor. You’ve got a Midas touch, go touch anything a d it will turn to gold. Good luck to you…”
2Baba opened the show, singing his latest song, ‘Holy Holy’, followed by Mavin Record’s First Lady, Tiwa Savage with ‘Key to the City’. When Emmy Gee climbed the stage featuring AB Crazy and DJ Dimplez, they sang ‘Rands and Nairas’. Tiwa Savage returned one more time to the stage, doing the medley, ‘Romatic’ and ‘All Over’, while 2Baba closed the performances with the classic, ‘African Queen’.
It was a live crossing show, with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu hosting the South African studio leg, while former BBN winner, Katung Aduwak anchored the live broadcast from the Lagos screening center, the Classique Event Place, Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, with fans of the show, sponsors, Nigerian media and past contestants of the show.
Marvis was the first to leave the house. When asked if she would want to further her relationship with Efe, she became evasive. Marvis’ exit was followed by guitar girl Debie-Rise who had disappointment written all over her. Asked where her heart belongs between Efe and Bassey, she noted that although it was natural to get attracted to one or two person, “But I really like Bassey.”
It was jubilations at the Lagos screening center when TBoss was evicted, just as the crowd at the Johannesburg studio where sort of booing her. She had been the most controversial housemate, noted for a beautiful body, full of tattoos and piercings which she displayed at will. The internet was abuzz last week when it was said that the Nigerian-Romanian housemate could not recite the National Anthem. She, also being the reason Kemen was disqualified from the show. However, she was declared overall winner of Friday Payporte arena games with a voucher of N500, 000 for shopping.
Presenting another side-laurel; the ONE campaign prize, won by Bisola was Honorable Desmond Elliot and Sarah Makka. She will be joining organisers in New York to speak further at the United Nations Assembly on educating the girl-child.
When Efe was declared winner, it was clear Bisola was the first runner-up.
Previously evicted housemates include Miyonse, Soma, CocoIce, Gifty, Uriel, ThinTallTony, Bassey, Balley, and Kemen, who was disqualified for breaking the rule of the game. They were all present at the Lagos live screening.
In the last three months, Big Brother Naija was estimated to be the most watched show on the African continent, shutting down Instagram, Facebook and Twitters with trending issues on a daily basis.

Lagos Doctors butchered my wife - Portuguese husband

Medical errors in hospitals kill more Nigerians every year than AIDS, malaria, breast cancer and auto accidents combined. But Arlindo Defreitas, a Portuguese national living in Lagos, never thought his wife would be one of those statistics. After all, he attended almost 5 years of medical school back in Portugal. But when his wife took a turn for the worse during a cesarean section at the Medical Art Center (MART) in Lagos, he went from being confident to helpless and lost husband, afraid of questioning the care she was getting, for fear it would become worse.Arlindo, who now has to care for his sonalone after his wife died following the cesarean section says his wife was killed by doctors at the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Onigbongbo, Lagos, based hospital.

“When I entered the theater all her organs was scattered around,I couldn’t look , it was like the work of a butcher.” I told the doctor my wife is not a cow,

he said.Arlindo said his wife, Amaka, 24, showed no signs of distress in the weeks following up to the c-section.According to him, after 4 years trying to conceive, his wife finally got pregnant and was a pre-natal care patient at the MART Hospital.“

Last week Friday at 41 weeks of pregnancy, doctors at the hospital told us that no baby water was seen and as a result a cesarean section operation must be done as soon as possible.” The procedure was done and the baby was delivered by 8.30 am onSaturday, and we were very happy- for a short time, he said.“I was very happy even though thebaby almost died as I was told by the doctors that the baby was almost ‘strangled’ by the umbilical cord, the head was red and one arm was white, the skin was very wrinkled.” “My wife was moved out of the theater and transferred to a private room to recuperate”‘ At some point she was in excruciating pain, and the doctors kept giving her doses upon doses of pain killers”.“I was uncomfortable and I told them that from my experience as a medical student years ago I think my wife hemorrhaged. “Hours later the doctors said they have to cut her open again to find out what was going on with her, Klimek said in shock. And none of this doctor or nurses must praMedical errors in hospitals kill more Nigerians every year than AIDS, malaria, breast cancer and auto accidents combined. But Arlindo Defreitas, a Portuguese national living in Lagos, never thought his wife would be one of those statistics. After all, he attended almost 5 years of medical school back in Portugal. But when his wife took a turn for the worse during a cesarean section at the Medical Art Center (MART) in Lagos, he went from being confident to helpless and lost husband, afraid of questioning the care she was getting, for fear it would become worse.Arlindo, who now has to care for his sonalone after his wife died following the cesarean section says his wife was killed by doctors at the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Onigbongbo, Lagos, basedhospital.“When I entered the theater all her organs was scattered around,I couldn’t look , it was like the work of a butcher.” I told the doctor my wife is not a cow, he said.Arlindo said his wife, Amaka, 24, showed no signs of distress in the weeks following up to the c-section.According to him, after 4 years trying to conceive, his wife finally got pregnant and was a pre-natal care patient at the MART Hospital.“Last week Friday at 41 weeks of pregnancy, doctors at the hospital told us that no baby water was seen and as a result a cesarean section operation must be done as soon as possible.” The procedure was done and the baby was delivered by 8.30 am onSaturday, and we were very happy- for a short time, he said.“I was very happy even though thebaby almost died as I was told by the doctors that the baby was almost ‘strangled’ by the umbilical cord, the head was red and one arm was white, the skin was very wrinkled.” “My wife was moved out of the theater and transferred to a private room to recuperate”‘ At some point she was in excruciating pain, and the doctors kept giving her doses upon doses of pain killers”.“I was uncomfortable and I told them that from my experience as a medical student years ago I think my wife hemorrhaged. At that point Arlindo watched as her condition steadily worsened, untildoctors asked him to leave the room. He claimed that after his persistence the doctors ran a testand said that his wife lost a lot of blood during the cesarean section.“I was asked to leave and wait fora call before coming back, so I went home”.In the words of Michael Klimek, a friend of Arlindo and a fellow European from Germany, ” after she delivered the baby, the doctor told her that she have to drink 5 bottles of water.” I was shocked, everybody knows how dangerous it is for a woman that just underwent C-Section to drink water”. ” After drinking the water, the bleeding started and it won´t stop. And none of this doctor or nurses must practice in this profession again, said an angry Klimek, friend of the husband.” I am from Germany and when this things happen in Germany or Europe, the government conduct an investigation, I hope, this will be the same here, he asked.“Now I can understand, why your president went to medical check up outside of Nigeria, he concluded. The husband of the deceased claim thatone Dr Moses butchered his wife to death, “yes Moses killed my wife”. ” After they noticed their mistake they refuse to tell me details, I called them continuously and they won’t pick my phone”.Per Second News reached out to the hospital and the chief medical director, Prof Oladapo Ashiru, said the Mart medicare gave the deceased high quality care with experienced professionals.“The lady Amaka, was young, she said she was 24 but she looked 21”. “He said all those that attended to her from the Obstetrician to the Anesthesiologist and Nurses are well experienced professionals. I didn’t see them or hear from them again until I called them at 39 weeks and she said she travelled and was not around”. “They finally came when the pregnancy was at41 weeks, after a scan no baby water was seen at that point I told them categorically that a C-Section must be done immediately.”“We did the procedure and the baby arrived Saturday morning, except for the umbilical cord that was around the baby’s neck, everything was fine, both mother and baby were fine and we even moved her out of the theater to the normal room for her to recuperate.”“Hours after the first surgery she started complaining of tummy ache and severe pain, despite thepain killers being administered onher, she also complained of abdominal pain.“She was pale and we ran a test and found out that her blood levelwas 12.7 percent low, at that point we did the second surgery to find out what was the cause ofpain”. Dr Makewu put the blame at the doorsteps of the Defeitas, saying the operation should have been done weeks before the 41 week period.Asked about cause of death, he said autopsy is currently being carried out. But Mr Defeitas insists that it was an error on the part of the doctors to cut his wife open for the second time withina 24 hour period.Justifying his claim, Defreitas, said he did not give his consent for the second surgery because he expected the hospital to do a comprehensive CT-Scan of the Pelvic & Abdomen to getthe right diagnosis, rather the doctors did a normal blood test which will never tell you if a patient has a blood clot or something more fatal.“I insisted in scan but before I arrived at the hospital they already cut her open and allowingher to lose more blood leading to her death”.A doctor close to the family said ” Possibly she bled a lot at first surgery, maybe the womb did not contract well also”. “She could also have had a DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation) an acquired bleeding disorder from too much blood loss, which makes it impossible for the body to stop further blood loss”.Defreitas, a retired professional with Lufthansa, German airline opened up in a lengthy discussion with Per Second News about living with the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Amaka, an Imo state indigene. The family are still in shock and traumatised over the mysterious death of Amaka Defeitas, wit the husband demanding that an independent postmortem be done on the remains of his wife.“We travelled all over the world together and looking forward to spending our lives in Nigeria, its so sad, I don’t know what to do next”.Speaking with Per Second News Dr Tiffany Jones, a US based obstetrician, said the case of the late Amaka Defreitas, is both pathetic and curious, wondering the rationale for making her go under the knife within 24 hours after the C-Section. She said the most common reason women die during C-sections is bleeding. Bleeding can be fast and severe and by the time any medical protocol can be instituted, sometimes it’s just too late.“That is why I believe the second surgery was not necessary”.“Other C-section complications include bladder injury, infection, bowel injuries and blood clots, which can sometimes result in pulmonary embolisms. A pulmonary embolism is a potentially fatal blockage of the main artery of the lung by a substance that has traveled from somewhere else in the body.”Our thoughts and prayers go out to Amaka’s husband, family and son duringthis difficult time.I hope, this will be the same here, he asked.“Now I can understand, why your president went to medical check up outside of Nigeria, he concluded.

Court remands Ex-NNPC boss, Yakubu in Kuje Prison

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, remanded former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, who was accused of stashing over N3billion at his house in Kaduna, in Kuje Prison.

Trial Justice A. R. Mohammed sent the defendant to prison after he pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him.

Yakubu will remain in prison till March 21 when the court will rule on his bail application.
The defendant had through his lawyer, Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, begged the court to rather remand him in EFCC custody pending the ruling, a result that was turned down by Justice Mohammed.

It will be recalled that following a tip-off from a whistle-blower, the EFCC, raided Yakubu’s guest house situated at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, where it recovered the alleged loot which was in foreign currencies.

The anti-agency said it discovered the sum of $9.7million and £74,000 that Yakubu hid in a fireproof safe inside the house.

The defendant earlier asked the high court to order the commission to return the seized money to him, insisting it was part of monetary gifts he received on various occasions.

Nigeria will be out of recession soon - experts

Economic experts have said that the drop in inflation figure from 18.72 in January to 17.78 per cent in February was a signal that the country’s economy would overcome recession soon.
The experts said this on Wednesday in Abuja that the 0.94 per cent inflation decline was an indication that recession could end before the end of the second quarter of 2017.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) February Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicated that inflation rate dropped to 17.78 per cent for the first time in 15 months.
Mr Lawrence Ode, a development economist while reacting to the decline, stated that the reduction signified the commencement of a drop in the rising cost of goods and services in the country.
Ode said that the current inflation figure would ultimately have a positive effect on the purchasing ability of Nigerians and was capable of growing the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
Mr Moses Odo, a Banker also stated that the current decline in inflation figure would impact positively on lending rate by deposit money banks and cause interest rates on loans and advances to reduce.
He said it would also stimulate the confidence of foreign investors to consolidate their investments in the country.
Odo attributed the drop in inflation rate to a major slump in the core inflation sub-index at the rate of 16 per cent on all items, except food, in the month under review.
Odo said it was very necessary for government to further inject additional funds to boost economic activities.

Chelsea to build a new stadium

Chelsea’s plans to build a new £500 million ($610mn, 580mn euros) 60,000-seat stadium cleared another major hurdle on Monday when they received approval from London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

“London is one of the world’s greatest sporting cities and I’m delighted that we will soon add Chelsea’s new stadium to the already fantastic array of sporting arenas in the capital,” Khan said in a statement.

The Premier League leaders plan to build the new arena on the site of their current Stamford Bridge home in west London, which seats 41,631 fans.

The proposals received planning permission from local authorities in January and the new ground could be completed in time for the 2021-22 season.

“Having taken a balanced view of the application, I’m satisfied this is a high-quality and spectacular design which will significantly increase capacity within the existing site, as well as ensuring fans can have easy access from nearby transport connections,” Khan added.

“I’m confident this new stadium will be a jewel in London’s sporting crown and will attract visitors and football fans from around the world.”

The new stadium has been designed by Herzog and de Meuron, the architects behind the “Bird’s Nest” stadium used at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.

It will enable Chelsea to bring their match-day revenue more into line with their main Premier League rivals.

Chelsea made £93 million on match days in 2014-15, according to financial consultants Deloitte, well below Arsenal (£132 million) and Manchester United (£114 million).

Chelsea currently have the seventh-biggest ground in the Premier League and the third-biggest in London, behind Arsenal and West Ham United.

“This is the latest significant step toward redevelopment of the stadium and the delivery of the extensive local community programme,” Chelsea said in a statement, adding they were “delighted” by the mayor’s decision.

“Further steps lie ahead, both during and after the planning process, before construction work can commence.”

The club will have to leave Stamford Bridge — their home since 1905 — for three years during the redevelopment.

They could temporarily relocate to Wembley, which is being used by Tottenham Hotspur next season while their White Hart Lane ground is rebuilt.
